SA:Greens call for local steel at Olympic Dam

ADELAIDE, Aug 22 AAP - The Greens have called on the South Australian government to
demand the use of Australian steel in the $30 billion expansion of BHP Billiton's Olympic
Dam copper and uranium mine.

SA Greens MP Mark Parnell said mandating that the company use local steel in a new
processing plant would provide a timely boost for the struggling Australian steel sector.

"Using Australian steel for a new processing plant at Olympic Dam would provide an
enormous pipeline of manufacturing work," Mr Parnell said on Monday.

He said it would also help ensure the economic benefits of the Olympic Dam expansion
were more evenly spread.

His comments came as BlueScope Steel said it would close two of its production facilities
and cut 1000 jobs as part of a restructure aimed at returning it to profitability.

The South Australian government is currently negotiating with BHP-Billiton over the
final details of the Olympic Dam expansion.

It hopes to have legislation to allow the expansion to proceed before parliament in September.

It is yet to be revealed how much of the ore extracted, from what will become the world's
largest mine, will be processed Australia.

NSW: Endangered boorolong frogs jump back into the wild

SYDNEY, Feb 19 AAP - The first booroolong frogs to be bred in a zoo have been released
back into the wild, one year after Sydney's Taronga Zoo started a breeding program to
save the tiny amphibian.

The numbers of the critically endangered native species are falling dramatically, a
zoo spokeswoman said, with fewer than 5,000 remaining in the wild.

The decline has been attributed to water pollution, loss of habitat and use of herbicides
and pesticides, as well as chyrtid fungus and climate change, the spokesman said.

More than 600 booroolong frogs were released today in south-western NSW following the
breeding program which began last year with 34 of the frogs.

Zoo spokeswoman Sarah Mason said the program had been an unprecedented success and
bode well for the future breeding of the endangered corroboree frog from the same area.

The corroboree frog's population has been devastated by the deadly Chytrid fungus,
with only 50 remaining in the National Park, Ms Mason said.

"Chytrid fungus is an infectious disease which attacks frogs in cool mountainous regions,"

she said.

"The disease has also caused dramatic decline in frog species from New Zealand, USA,
Central America, South America, Spain and Germany and is notoriously difficult to treat.

"Taronga Zoo is continuing to conduct field research and breeding to boost corroboree
frog numbers.

"However, current environmental threats to the species mean that a release is unlikely
until next year at the earliest."

MELBOURNE, April 20 AAP - Victoria's chief commissioner, a former head of the Purana
anti-gangland taskforce, is sorry gangland killer Carl Williams is dead.

Chief Commissioner Simon Overland says any murder is wrong, regardless of the victim's history.

"Everyone, regardless of what they have done or who they are, is entitled to their
life," he told ABC Radio on Tuesday.

"Carl Williams is no different from anyone else so I am sorry that he has died and
particularly that he's died in the circumstances that played out yesterday."

Mr Overland, who used to head the Purana Taskforce charged with investigating Melbourne's
gangland war, has asked his deputy Sir Ken Jones to head the investigation into Williams'

He said Sir Ken will bring an objective mind to the investigation.

"He has the benefit of not having been previously involved in any of the underworld
murders or investigations," Mr Overland said.

"He will bring a genuinely objective mind to this whole process."

Williams was bashed to death allegedly by a fellow inmate in an exercise facility at
the Acacia Unit of the high-security Barwon Prison about 12.50pm (AEST) on Monday.

He was sitting at a table when he was hit from behind several times with the stem of

Vic: Hinch takes legal fight to Supreme Court

By Daniel Fogarty

MELBOURNE, April 28 AAP - Outspoken broadcaster Derryn Hinch has gone to the Supreme
Court in his fight against charges that he breached court orders by naming sex offenders.

A criminal case against Hinch, 64, was adjourned in the Melbourne Magistrates Court
on Tuesday while he seeks in the Victorian Supreme Court to have two suppression orders
set aside.

Lawyers for the Fairfax Radio Network broadcaster will argue Victorian County Court
judges failed or wrongly applied a legislative test when making those orders.

It is alleged Hinch named sex offenders whose names were suppressed at a victims of
crime rally on the steps of the Victorian parliament in June last year, and on his website.

Hinch's lawyer David Gilbertson applied to the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday
to adjourn the criminal charges until the Supreme Court matter was heard.

He said orders relating to three of Hinch's five charges would be challenged.

Mr Gilbertson said it would be argued a further charge was made in error.

There would be no submission made challenging the fifth charge, he said.

Prosecutor Kim Swadesir opposed the adjournment, arguing Hinch's criminal matter must
take precedence over the civil Supreme Court application.

The court heard it could be six months before the Supreme Court heard the application.

Magistrate Sarah Dawes said prosecutors were put on notice about the possibility of
Supreme Court action at the first mention of the case.

"I don't think it is appropriate for this matter to be dealt with, with these other
matters on foot," she said.

Ms Dawes adjourned the case until November for a contested hearing expected to take three days.

Hinch was not in court for Tuesday's hearing.

Speaking after a hearing last year he indicated he would strongly defend the charges.

"I have said before what I did, what I have done, I think is morally right and it is
up to the courts to decide whether I am legally right or wrong," Hinch said.

Sai: Sailors too busy to take good luck phone call from Kidman

By Simon Mossman

QINGDAO, Aug 17 AAP - Few people would ignore a phone call from Nicole Kidman.

Malcolm Page, Olympic sailing team captain and gold medallist-in-waiting with 470 teammate
Nathan Wilmot, did - twice.

"Actually, one of them I bumped because I didn't recognise the number and I thought
it might have been a journalist or something back in Australia because it was on my Aussie
phone," Page said.

"I was getting breakfast and thought 'Ah, I just don't want to talk to her today',
so I bumped it and then two seconds later there was a message from Nicole wishing us both
good luck.

"It made a good conversation piece at the breakfast table."

Last week the award-winning actress recorded a message of support for triple world
champions Page and Wilmot, who named their dinghy Australia after her upcoming film, and
evidently it did the trick.

They were crowned unofficial Olympic champions yesterday, even before their final race
on Monday, after opening up an unassailable points lead over their nearest rivals.

"I did call her back after breakfast but she was on the set of Australia, very appropriately,"

Page said.

"We haven't actually spoken in mid-regatta but we've had plenty of contact from her."

It's not the first time Kidman has brought good luck to the Olympic champions-elect.

The pair with a habit of naming all their boats after Kidman's films won last year's
Olympic test event in their boat Dead Calm - the irony not lost in Qingdao, notorious
for its incredibly light sailing conditions.

"She's a good supporter to have on the side, I think," Wilmot said.

NT: Cop bashed drunk and then tried to destroy evidence: court

By Tara Ravens

DARWIN, April 9 AAP - A drunk taken into custody and handcuffed was kicked repeatedly
by a police officer who then tried to destroy a video of the bashing, a Northern Territory
court has heard.

Sergeant Michael James Bourke, 34, has been charged with three counts of aggravated
assault and one count of attempting to destroy evidence.

The Supreme Court in Darwin today heard Bourke was the senior officer in charge of
Tennant Creek police station on November 25, 2006.

About 2pm he "gloved up" before heading to the cells where he allegedly assaulted Graham
Kurnoth, 31, who had been taken into protective custody to sober up earlier that day.

"Mr Kurnoth was playing up, playing up big time," crown prosecutor John Lawrence said
of the Alice Springs local, who was employed in an Aboriginal work-for-the-dole scheme.

"His conduct in any man's language was rude and abusive ... a veritable angry ant."

Mr Lawrence said Mr Kurnoth was flung to the floor and handcuffed with his hands behind
his back after he hit back at Bourke, who had punched him in the head.

"Bourke is seen to kick Mr Kurnoth to the head while he is lying on his stomach with
his hand behind his back," he told the court.

As the drunken Mr Kurnoth was then dragged to another cell, the sergeant kicked his
face in a corridor and then again in the cell.

After the attack, the police officer allegedly attempted to tape over video footage
of the incident.

"The tape was stopped, rewound and play-pressed again," Mr Lawrence said, adding that
it was seized by a junior officer before the evidence was damaged.

Mr Kurnoth admitted to the court that he had been drunk and "swearing badly".

He said the sergeant had asked him to be quiet and "step back" from the door of the cell.

"He was just talking to me and then I think that he tried to hit me, punched me," he said.

"Then I was grabbed down on my front belly, handcuffed ... I was slammed against the
cell door on my side, dragged out and kicked in the head area."

"Were you bleeding?" Mr Lawrence asked.

"Yes," he replied.

"Where?"

"The mouth, the head."

Mr Kurnoth said he had been "jumping on the counter and stealing grog" shortly before
police picked him up.

Defence Lawyer Peter Elliott told the court he had been taken into protective custody
more than a hundred times.

"You would get angry at police most times they picked you up and you would fight the
police a lot, you would spit at the police, you would punch the police," Mr Elliott said.

Almost six hours after Mr Kurnoth was allegedly bashed, police took him to Tennant
Creek Hospital to treat an abrasion on his face.

He told a doctor there a police officer had kicked him while he was handcuffed and
on his hands and knees.

Mr Kurnoth fled the hospital before the doctor could treat him.

The trial before Justice Dean Mildren continues.

SA: No regrets for staffer involved in paedophile MP claims

A former parliamentary staffer says he doesn't regret wrongly outing a South Australian
politician as a paedophile.

Criminal defamation charges have been dismissed against former parliamentary staffers
BARRY STANDFIELD and WENDY UTTING .. who were volunteer workers for former SA parliamentary
speaker PETER LEWIS.

The pair made statutory declarations .. which were released to the media last year
.. naming a current Labor MP as an alleged paedophile.

The declarations also named a former Liberal MP and two senior police officers as alleged
paedophiles.

But in the Adelaide Magistrates Court .. District Court judge MARIE SHAW ruled Mr STANDFIELD
and Ms UTTING had no case to answer after hearing the four named men had never publicly
denied the claims.

Outside the court .. Mr STANDFIELD said he had no regrets about his actions and remained
committed to uncovering the extent of sex abuse of children.

But Judge SHAW ruled a third defendant .. CRAIG RATCLIFF .. should face trial on one
charge of criminal defamation.

RATCLIFF allegedly made the paedophile claims about the Labor MP to Mr LEWIS's office
.. saying he had sex with the politician when he was underage in the 1980s.

RATCLIFF later said he had mistaken the MP for another man.

A police investigation found no evidence that any of the four men named in the statutory
declarations were paedophiles.

NSW: Iemma calls for tougher sentencing

(EDS: Reissuing, clarifying timeframe of brawls in last par)

SYDNEY, Dec 11 AAP - NSW Premier Morris Iemma says he wants thugs who assault lifeguards
to face the maximum 25 years in jail.

Assault penalties under the Crimes Act range from two to 25 years, depending on the
offender's intent and the damage caused.

Mr Iemma says he wants the law amended so courts consider it an aggravating factor
if the assault victim is a volunteer.

"Those who selflessly give up their time to save people in distress on the beach should
not be considered easy targets by thugs and hooligans," Mr Iemma said in a statement.

"We are going to back them with extra protection that will ensure that judges take
into account their status in the community when sentencing."

Mr Iemma said the law will be amended when parliament resumes next year.

Riot police are today patrolling North Cronulla Beach, in Sydney's south, following
fears of violence between rival gangs.

The huge police operation was mounted after text messages began circulating among the
Sutherland Shire community calling for vigilante responses to target unwelcome visitors
to the popular tourist beach.

The beach has been the scene of two incidents in the past week - an attack on two lifeguards
reportedly by a gang of Middle Eastern youths on Sunday last week and a brawl on Wednesday
in which youths allegedly turned on a media crew.

Acumen Brands Goes Live in Record Time with Kiva Fulfillment Solution.

From Abandoned Warehouse to World Class Fulfillment Engine in Less Than Four Months

NORTH READING, Mass. -- Kiva Systems, a developer of game-changing mobile-robotic solutions that automate order fulfillment and distribution operations, today announced the deployment of its solution at Acumen Brands' new fulfillment center (FC) in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Kiva helped Acumen transform an abandoned warehouse into a world class order fulfillment engine in less than 14 weeks. Acumen is using a Kiva System to handle all inventory storage and fulfillment for 20 individual Internet retail stores it plans to launch this year.

Acumen Brands currently operates a number of specialty online stores, including outdoor apparel (www.trailsedge.com), work wear (www.toughweld.com), nursing scrubs (www.scrubshopper.com) and baby gear (www.babyhabit.com) and it is already a distributor for more than 250 well-known apparel brands such as Timberland, Carhartt, Dickies, Fisher Price, Wrangler and Under Armour. Acumen's 2011 expansion plans include 16 new online stores serving a wide range of diverse market niches. The company's goal is to offer the best selection and fastest delivery in each market niche, and its aggressive growth strategy requires both easy operational scalability and the ability to warehouse and fulfill a broad spectrum of different merchandise categories.

"In our old warehouse we had completely run out of space, which was stifling the growth of our business. Kiva's mobile-robotic solution instantly appealed to us because it meant we could be up and running in a new FC in months versus years," said John James, CEO and co-founder of Acumen Brands. "Incredibly, Kiva allowed us to replenish our entire inventory from the old warehouse to our new fulfillment center in less than three and a half days. Kiva redefines the term 'flexibility,' enabling us to redefine the term 'growth.'"

Kiva uses hundreds of robotic drive units that bring inventory on mobile shelves directly to workers, allowing easy and efficient access to all inventory items at all times. Unlike traditional automation such as conveyor, carousel and AS/RS, Kiva can handle products of all shapes and sizes, and automatically brings products to operators eliminating wasteful time spent walking the warehouse floor. Kiva is a complete order fulfillment solution that encompasses inventory control, forward replenishment, picking, packing, shipping sortation, finishing and quality assurance to simultaneously improve fulfillment center productivity, speed, accuracy and flexibility.

"Our results with Acumen reinforce the point that Kiva's out-of-the-box solution nails the Internet retail business requirements and is truly the world class engine of eCommerce," said Mick Mountz, CEO and founder of Kiva Systems. "By getting its Kiva system in-production many months sooner than would otherwise have been possible, Acumen is now able to grow the top line faster while increasing both order quality and fulfillment speed for its customers. The team at Acumen gets it; they are a fun partner and it is terrific to work with a group that is moving at the speed of the Internet."

Raising awareness Allstate Facebook campaign aims to remind teens that too many car trips end in death.(Business)

Northbrook-based Allstate is hoping you'll black out your Facebook profile picture, all to help bring awareness to teen driving deaths.

The new campaign starts today, May 20, at www.facebook.com/save11. Save 11 focuses on this particular day because that's when the most teen drivers nationwide have died, an average of 11, compared to any other day of the year. That's due to a combination of warm weather, parties, friends and the end of school, according to Allstate and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

While the Facebook promotion on teen driving deaths has been up for a while and has about 73,000 friends, the blackout portion is new today. The company wants you to click on the black square that will replace your profile photo. It aims to promote awareness and to help stop teen drivers from being reckless, said Allstate spokeswoman Emily Pukala.

"May 20 is one of the 10 worst driving days of the year and most of the other days are now through August," said Pakula. "So we're entering into the heart of that season now."

Allstate is hoping thousands of Facebook fans will use the black square as a sign of unity. It's also a campaign to support the Standup Act, which gives states resources to help improve safe driving standards among teens, she said.

The company also continues another Facebook campaign called XtheTEXT to keep drivers from being distracted with texting. It also encourages teens to pledge that they won't text and drive.

At school events featuring XtheTEXT, an Allstate representative

hands out rubber thumb bands as a reminder to teens to stop before picking up their smartphone while driving. The events also ask teens to provide their thumb print on a poster board as a commitment that they'll avoid texting while driving, she said.

Scientists at Boston College Target Management Science.

"This paper examines the drivers of adoption of Internet banking and the linkages among adoption drivers and outcomes (product acquisition, service activity, profitability, loyalty). We relate Internet banking adoption to customer demand for banking services, the availability of alternative channels, customers' efficiency in service coproduction (''customer efficiency''), and local Internet banking penetration," scientists in Chestnut Hill, United States report (see also Management Science).

"We find that customers who have greater transaction demand and higher efficiency, and reside in areas with a greater density of online banking adopters, are faster to adopt online banking after controlling for time, regional, and individual characteristics. Consistent with prior work, we find that customers significantly increase their banking activity, acquire more products, and perform more transactions. These changes in behavior are not associated with short-run increases in customer profitability, but customers who adopt online banking have a lower propensity to leave the bank. Building on these observations we also find that the adoption drivers are linked to the postadoption changes in behavior or profitability. Customers who live in areas with a high branch density or high Internet banking penetration increase their product acquisition and transaction activity more than Internet banking adopters in other regions," wrote M. Xue and colleagues, Boston College.

The researchers concluded: "Efficient customers and those with high service demand show greater postadoption profitability."

Xue and colleagues published their study in Management Science (Determinants and Outcomes of Internet Banking Adoption. Management Science, 2011;57(2):291-307).

Voxware Reports Fiscal 1997 Fourth Quarter and Full-Year Results.

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 4, 1997--Voxware(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:VOXW), a developer of speech and audio technologies, today announced financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended June 30, 1997.

For the fourth quarter ended June 30, 1997, revenues were $2.7 million, which represents an increase of $1.8 million compared to $0.9 million of revenues reported in the Fiscal 1996 fourth quarter. The increase in revenues reflects an increase in aggregate initial license fees as well as an increase in royalties and recurring license fees related to contracts signed in previous quarters. Revenues for the quarter ended June 30, 1997 were comprised of initial license fees of $1.8 million generated from 18 new license agreements, royalties and recurring license fees of $0.7 million, and service revenues of $0.2 million. These amounts compare to initial license fees of $0.6 million, $0.2 million of royalties and recurring license fees, and $0.1 million of service revenues for the Fiscal 1996 fourth quarter. Since inception, the Company has entered into approximately 80 license agreements, the majority of which provide for royalties and recurring license fees.

The Company reported a net loss for the fourth quarter of Fiscal 1997 of $0.8 million, or ($0.06) per share, compared to a net loss of $1.3 million or ($0.14) per share, for the fourth quarter of Fiscal 1996.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 1997, total revenues were $7.8 million, reflecting an increase of $6.2 million compared to $1.6 million in revenues in Fiscal 1996. Fiscal 1997 revenues were comprised of initial license fees of $5.4 million, royalties and recurring license fees of $2.0 million and service revenues of $0.4 million. These amounts compare to $1.6 million in revenues for Fiscal 1996, which were comprised of initial license fees of $1.3 million, royalties and recurring license fees of $0.2 million and service revenues of $0.1 million. The net loss for Fiscal 1997 was $7.0 million, or ($0.62) per share, compared to $2.9 million, or ($0.33) per share, in Fiscal 1996.

At June 30, 1997, cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled $16.5 million.

Michael Goldstein, President and Chief Executive Officer of Voxware, commented, "Looking at the fiscal 1997 year, we are pleased to have established our MetaVoice speech coding technology as a premium solution for incorporating voice in a wide variety of software applications with acceptance by Microsoft, Netscape, America Online, Walt Disney, Prodigy and many others. We are also pleased that our MetaSound general audio technology which is more appropriate for music applications, has been accepted by Microsoft, Walt Disney, IBM and others.

"In light of the strength of our core technology development and licensing, we have been focusing on expanding this business and leveraging it into additional markets that provide further opportunities for recurring revenue. At the same time, we have been de-emphasizing the marketing of consumer application software, which has proven to be less attractive due to the economics of marketing these applications to consumers. These factors have contributed to our improved operating margins in this current fiscal year."

Bathsheba Malsheen, Chief Operating Officer of Voxware, added "The first leg of Voxware's strategy has been to establish a leadership position as a technology supplier in the software world. In addition to the revenue generated from software licensing, this is helping to create a very large installed base of users that have Voxware's technologies built into their applications. Our goal is to leverage this broad distribution in software into sales through the computer telephony hardware channels and other media that will need to inter-operate with this installed base using our technologies. We are expanding our DSP engineering resources and working closely with our computer telephony customers to create channels for sustainable recurring revenues over the long term."

This news release contains forward-looking statements. Such statements are subject to certain factors which may cause Voxware's plans to differ or results to vary from those expected including the risks associated with development of new products and the uncertainty of product acceptance, the uncertainty of adoption of the Internet as a medium for voice communications, the Company's reliance on third parties to generate recurring revenues, the competitive nature of the Company's industry, rapid technological changes, the Company's need to develop new and enhanced products, government regulations and legal uncertainties, the Company's dependence on key personnel, uncertainties regarding patents and proprietary rights, and a variety of risks set forth from time to time in Voxware's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Voxware undertakes no obligation to publicly release results of any of these forward-looking statements which may be made to reflect events or circumstances after the date hereof or to reflect the occurrence of unexpected events.

ZIEGLER IS GIVEN A PUBLIC REPRIMAND SUPREME COURT JUSTICES DISCIPLINE A COLLEAGUE.(FRONT)

Byline: DEE J. HALL dhall@madison.com 608-252-6132

The Wisconsin Supreme Court publicly reprimanded Justice Annette Ziegler on Wednesday, handing down an unprecedented discipline against one of its own members.

The discipline stems from Ziegler's acknowledgement that while serving as a circuit judge, she presided over nearly a dozen cases in which she had a conflict of interest. Ziegler was elected to a 10-year term on the court in April 2007, about a month after the conflict of interest involving West Bend Savings Bank was revealed.

While calling the misconduct "serious and significant," the high court in a 60-page opinion nonetheless opted for the most lenient discipline available. The court could have imposed a suspension or expulsion from the bench, although both the Wisconsin Judicial Commission and a three-judge Judicial Conduct Panel had recommended a reprimand.

"Our decision to impose a public reprimand and not a suspension is consistent with our past precedent in both the judicial and attorney discipline line of cases," the five-member majority wrote. "In addition, a suspension would not serve the purpose of fostering public trust and confidence in the judicial system any better than a public reprimand under the circumstances of the present case."

Ziegler didn't participate in the deliberations. Justice Louis Butler Jr. dissented, saying he didn't disagree with the decision but that by declining to call witnesses, the Judicial Conduct Panel failed to establish "facts" upon which to base the discipline.

"I respectfully cannot sign on to a decision lacking the type of evidentiary basis that we would consider a foundational requisite in any other case before us," Butler wrote.

In a statement released to reporters Wednesday, Ziegler said, "I appreciate that this matter is now concluded. I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Wisconsin."

Ziegler has acknowledged that while a Washington County Circuit Court judge, she sat on cases involving West Bend Savings Bank, where her husband, developer J.J. Ziegler, serves on the board of directors.

Violations 'willful'

The court called the violations "willful" because "the judge knew or should have known that the conduct was prohibited by the Code of Judicial Conduct." However, Ziegler had said she didn't think about the code when presiding over the West Bend Savings cases.

The lawsuits included six cases in which the bank sought to seize vehicles from customers who were behind in their car payments, three mortgage foreclosures and two other matters. One case involved a man caught up in an Internet scam who directed the bank to wire $45,000 to a Nigerian attorney. In nearly all of the cases, defendants represented themselves against the bank. In every case, Ziegler either ruled for the bank or the matter was settled out of court.

Ziegler contended the decisions were the same as any other judge would render under the circumstances. The judicial commission investigation into the conflict of interest concluded Ziegler didn't gain financially from the decisions, and that once she was alerted to the violation, she took steps to avoid any future conflicts.

The Supreme Court found Ziegler violated a rule that prohibits judges from handling cases in which he or she or a family member is a party or a director of a party in a lawsuit. The majority also faulted the three Court of Appeals judges for giving Ziegler credit for acknowledging her violations but not probing whether that admission was public or made behind closed doors during investigations by the Judicial Commission and the state Ethics Board.

"What is clear is that the judge never unambiguously admitted before the election that her conduct violated the code," the court said.

While the decision called Ziegler's violations of the rules "inexcusable," it concluded that they "do not rise to the level of knowing violations made in brazen contempt ... of the code."

Discipline called lenient

Good government groups decried Ziegler's actions and what some perceived as discipline that was too lenient.

"Annette Ziegler violated the sacred trust that when you go into a courtroom the judge isn't rooting for one side over the other," said Scot Ross, executive director of the Milwaukee-based One Wisconsin Now, which first revealed the conflicts of interest.

Said Mike McCabe, executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign: "The court is operating under a cloud, and I don't think that cloud cover is any less dense because the court slapped Annette Ziegler on the wrist."

McCabe, whose group filed the complaint, criticized the high court for imposing a less harsh discipline than it hands out to attorneys who commit less egregious ethical violations. In a recent study, the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign found that "lawyers were being suspended for things as minor as failure to pay their bar dues on time." He called the treatment afforded by the Supreme Court to fellow members of the judiciary "a double standard."

McCabe also was critical of the justices for following precedent in a case that was "unprecedented."

"They obviously leaned very heavily on past precedent, which I find bizarre since this is the first time the court has had to discipline a sitting Supreme Court justice," he said.

RELATIVES of a British student who disappeared three weeks ago while on holiday on the Greek island of Crete have made an emotional appeal for help in finding him.

Steven Cook, 20, from Sandbach, Cheshire, vanished on the first night of his holiday in the resort of Malia.

Members of his family have flown to Crete to join local police in their search and have posted an appeal on the internet.

'Me and the family are desperately searching for any clue we can get as to Steven's whereabouts, his movements on the night and any little detail that can help us bring our brother and son home,' writes Chris, Steven's brother.

'If you have any information please let us know. Confidentiality is assured. We just want to bring our Stevie home.'
