Fed: Former Ansett staff to protest outside PM's house

Former Ansett staff preparing for their second grim Christmas will protest outsidePrime Minister John Howard's Sydney home today.

The workers are angry that entitlement payments have been stalled by a separate court case.

Ansett administrators say the next installment of employee entitlements won't be releaseduntil next year.

Administrators are awaiting a decision on a Victorian Supreme Court case to decidewhether $200 million from the airline's assets should be paid to the Ansett Ground StaffSuperannuation Fund, rather than to former employees.

The Transport Workers Union says former workers and their families will appeal to thePM with a chorus of Christmas carols.

Workers will sing outside Kirribilli House from 7.40am (AEDT).

More than 16,000 Ansett staff lost their jobs when the airline collapsed in September 2000.
